I like the ending theme song of Battle Royale.. It should be playing now.. I was a fan of Jpop previously, and since I converted to a Cpop fan, I haven't heard japanese songs in a while.. But this one's a good song.. The song title is translated as something like "the starting steps of a quiet day".. Has a sad and yet hopeful feel to it.. Good song to end off the movie.. Cos to me the song is like questioning "life is already so hard...then why do we still treat each other so badly?" Well hmm.. That's my take on it anyway..XD Cos the lyrics of the song include lines like: 'The start of everyday, let us go with laughter"..
While searching for this song by Dragon Ash, I realize that the recent The Fast and The Furious 3: Tokyo Drift also has a theme song sung by them.. I've got some views on this Tokyo Drift movie.. Or rather my brother was telling me a little abt it.. It's merely the Western version of Initial D.. But I had thought that it cannot really be considered that the Americans copied Initial D, cos focusing on the drifting technique seems fine as long as the plot differs from that of Initial D.. But then my bro told me that the Americans had not really known abt the drifting technique till Initial D was shown.. And yet I had thought the Americans couldn't be thought of as copying, cos I assumed drifting is something that's known globally anyway.. Dunno the plot exactly coz I haven't intended to watch the show, but there's also the similarity regarding the male lead's relationship with his dad right.. Tokyo Drift also had car races filmed in the mountains, and would you believe it, it's the same mountains where Initial D was filmed as well! My bro told me these.. If it's all true, then shame on the U.S... Hahhh.. The U.S. can remake the successful foreign blockbuster movies, and then show it to their own people as something original, cos America doesn't show many foreign blockbusters in their cinemas right.. They dun need to coz they have their very own Hollywood yeah.. But I think it'll be a real waste of time and money for us to watch the remakes, since we can watch the originals.. The Hollywood remakes just dun match up to the originals.. I think it's a pity then that the Americans dun get to watch the originals, which are so much better in my opinion.. The Americans may be sustaining the growth of their country's own movie industry, but it's just too bad that they can only settle for the second grade Hollywood remakes..
So actually I wouldn't say that American culture dominates in every way, as it was brought up in our GP class right.. The West does copy the East, with reference to whatever I've said above.. And the East does the same.. In the context of movies right, right away I think of the Takeshi Kaneshiro movie "Perhaps Love"..
And then ah.. Another example of the West copying the East is this movie which will be opening soon.. Entitled "The Departed".. Remake of Hong Kong's Infernal Affairs.. Part I of Infernal Affairs rawks totally.. Hehe, but anyway I was abt to say.. The trailer of "The Departed" looks so damn boring.. The overall impression I got is that it's juz gonna have many small, dark spaces where there'll be face-offs between the many punks in the show.. Haha.. And they've got roof-top scenes! Recall the showdown between Andy Lau and Tony Leung, which too was on a rooftop.. Can they copy any more closely than this?
The movie industry in the U.S. also seems to be running out of ideas at points in time.. There had been talk before that because many movies were being made based on adaptations of novels, it hinted of the possibility that Hollywood was running out of movie ideas.. Nowadays, one really has to have completely different and refreshing ideas for other people to pay attention to you.. Coz so many story ideas have been generated and used all too often, so there'll be a limit to how much longer they will work.. And that's why Battle Royale can score as a hit movie.. It's like, the few words of "high school students battle it out in killing each other, and the only way out is to have everyone else killed" will be enough to catch someone's eye..
Hollywood will not be able to count on its own ideas all the time lah.. There will never be full domination by America's culture.. The world will never consist of all ang mohs.. There will still be the Chinese, Indians, Europeans and all other different races around.. The different languages we know will dictate what cultures we will expose ourselves to.. For example, we Chinese know the English and Chinese language, and hence we expose ourselves to both English and Chinese media.. It's natural.. So there needn't be any worries at all that American culture will have great dominance.. That's unlikely to me.. So what if American influences are imported into countries all over the world in great degrees right? We still decide for ourselves what we like and what we do not like.. Restless as we are in this modern world, we will not stick to American cultures only..
Haha, this post is really GP-ish.. And that's all I gotta say..^-^" Once again I've watched Battle Royale so late.. Battle Royale 2 has even come out already.. Hehez.. Dun really have much to say abt the movie, but its biggest plus point is really the wild idea of students killing each other off, in their school uniforms too.. And add to that the anticipation that comes from not knowing who will kill who next.. This wld be diff from the serial killer movies in which the killer is the one same fella, and we'll actually watch the whole movie despite knowing that it's juz a matter of waiting to see the chrs die one by one, bcoz we'll be wondering in what way would the chrs be killed off.. That's sadistic of us yar..X)
Battle Royale doesn't really need an R21 rating I think, now that I've finally watched it.. It's not so very bloody what.. It's like, the bodies just have patches of blood which is also too bright a shade of red to look all that real.. And I recall scenes of burning fire from the trailers, before I watched the movie itself.. So it actually worked in making me feel disturbed, bcos it had appeared to be a really 'hellish' movie in the trailers.. But then the movie itself just shows the scenes of fire as it is.. Nothing very much to it.. Yet, there is still a lot for censorship boards to worry abt in the movie lah, I agree..
Not able to study just now leh.. The night is gone, with my writing of this blog post.. My being tired is a real reason, not an excuse! Heheh.. Yet I can still go on to write this blog post..=S For my case, I think when it comes to something that keeps up my interest, it is like the chinese phrase says, I can "forego sleep and forget to eat".. Lolz! But tmr I really ought to get back to studying my ass off! I cannot say I have done my best as yet.. I really dun think so.. Tmr I must try to more than make up for today lor.. One thing is, this whole week I got myself to go to school all 5 days k.. That better have benefitted me.. Haha ok, I wun be able to have such long posts for the upcoming period now.. Byez!
