Ooh I love the movie, "Catch Me If You Can"! Yeah yeah, I know the movie was screened in 2002, but I juz watched it today.. The plot surrounds this young man, Frank Abagnale Jr, and an older guy whose name is Carl. It's based on a true story whereby this man, Frank, is a master of forgery and managed to bluff his way through occupations like of a pilot, a doctor, and then a lawyer. Carl was part of the police authorities who pursued Frank fervently, and I was surprised when the movie revealed to me that the real Carl and Frank became very good friends.
The movie showed Carl and Frank having some sort of a father and son relationship, and I felt that this was heart-warming. Frank was already a grown adult, but the movie showed him to be a little like a child delinquent. This is such that Frank was neglected by his family, and hence he began his career of forging careers probably bcoz he was feeling lost inside. I like it that Frank's helpless side is shown, and in fact I generally feel for ppl when they show their helplessness at certain points.. That's coz I think we are all vulnerable at times, and if we are to always cover up our helplessness, there's no point.. If one always does that, I believe one does not trust anyone to help him/her..
The real-life Frank is a true genius.. After being released from prison, he was hired to identify check frauds for the government.. And he was paid millions of dollars each year.. Amazing huh.. I have observed that a number of people who come from broken families become strong-willed and intelligent individuals.. I think adversity somehow does play a part in making us stronger.. On the other hand, living a sheltered life may not exactly build up a strong character.. I'm impressed by this Frank character..
Tom Hanks says this line in the movie: "Sometimes it's easier living the lie." And oh yeah, Frank had been lying to himself throughout then. And although the one he was always trying to escape was Carl, it seems to me that he wa escaping from himself too. I think it's way cool on watching a movie, to uncover deeper messages like that :P And even though he told Carl to stop chasing him, it seems more like he actually wanted Carl to chase him.. Coz he wanted someone to help him get back on the right track..
And at this point in time, I need brains like Frank's. Haha.. Bcoz I hope to go to NTU's School of Communication and Information, but it's gonna be FREAKING HARD. But right now, I have 2 reasons why I'm gonna try to give everything that I've got. One is because I seriously like film, and the second reason is bcoz I dun wanna feel all worried and panicky on the day the results are to be released.. Well yeah.. Nothing sucks more than that! Ok I'm going now! Bet this entry wasn't entertaining.. My apologies, but actually nah, forget that. This is my blog and I'll have it my way! Hehe. Alright, dun expect too many updates.. So cyaz?
